Hi all ,
I am interested in RC Helicoptering .......I got hooked after I got a Double Horse as a gift and repeatedly flew, crashed, and rebuilt it. I understand it is worth exactly what was paid , but the fun of take off and now being able o control it precisely , even with it's shortcomings are a blast for me. I do not know if I need RTF as I am very good at kit building . I also do enjoy complex kits . I understand that I should probably get a SIM and use that for practice. I am looking for advice on either a great kit and what It should contain or the best way to part it out............I have a $ 500 budget and would like something that can grow with my skill level.

Hi Erick,
With lots of sim practice you should be fine with a Trex 450. Smooth capable fliers and can be tamed down with the radio. Limit the servos some and bags of expo and they're pussey-cats. Good to build as well, that way you really get to know your heli.

E-bay has loads of Trex Clone RTF's and ARF for sale ...
I bought an Upforce RTF and all in with all the gear incl Heli 6ch radio 2.4ghz was less than $200 ...
came with all this gear ...
100% Trex 450 compatible for all parts ... and again Ebay scores here as you buy parts in job lots not singles ... clone parts are so cheap and it is better as you WILL crash .. WILL replace parts often ... and paying Align Trex prices would soon break the bank !!
I buy main blades in 10's .... flybars in 10's .... feathering shafts in 5's ... mainshafts in 5's ...... sets of plastic servo gears (worth swapping out to metal geared once you stop crashing every flight !) ..... 3 or 4 tail booms, 10 tail rotors .... 2 or 3 tail belts .... 10 main gear wheels .....
When it comes to main rotor heads and fixing parts in it b... it's actually cheaper and easier to buy a clone complete head of ebay and keep old for spare parts ...........
I also bought a complete Carbion frame / Metal gear upgrade kit - which in fact is a complete 450 without electronics or canopy for less than $30 ... this provides a complete back-up unit.
Sounds terrible .......... but it's all part of the learning curve. And using Ebay sources keeps costs in check.
